fresh : new Benassi/Kelis, N.E.R.D., Vampire Weekend

I love Benny Benassi and probably always will, and this is going to be the summer of Kelis (but the year of Robyn... thank god they're on tour together)... here's a great collaboration between the two called Spaceship:

Also brand new is a remix by Boys Noize of a track I posted a couple weeks ago, Hot N Fun by N.E.R.D. Not too shabby...

Lastly, everyone knows my distaste for how overrated Vampire Weekend is... but I do like this track (off the stellar Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack), titled Jonathan Low:

essentials: dj majr fingerbangs katy perry, usher

I posted these tracks last week to prove that I don't hate pop music. Then, I started to think... perhaps I could make them better... and I did.

Here are Katy Perry's California Gurls and Usher's OMG with DJ MAJR edits. Both Almighty and MSTRKRFT had too much going on in these tracks... and I simply edited the hell out of them to where they're not only tolerable pop, but also pretty damned good. Indulge:

remix monday : robyn, plushgun

I love Robyn more than my luggage. Body Talk Pt. 1 has painted my Spring and early Summer all kinds of sassy colors. The first release from Body Talk Pt. 2 is rumored to be Hang With Me, which is the original version of the acoustic track of the same title on Body talk Pt. 1. I'm so excited. Here's a live ripped remix by Avicii that has me jumping out of my phantom foreskin. I love it, even with it being a live rip (which I probably love even more.. you can hear the crowd reacting). Can't wait until it's released. The song is basically, lyrically, my love life (womp womp)... no, but really... well written and concise without being verbose and flowery. I love it (twice) and closed with it on Saturday. It really gets to me.... BLISSFULLY PAINFUL AND INSANITY!
Also, here is a fantastic remix by Buffetlibre (who is taking over Thin White Duke's spot as my favorite downtempo dance mixologist) of Plushgun's Mixtapes. I really dig this track, and you should too. :)

new Metric

I've never seen a Twilight movie, but this song is why Metric is one of the best bands in the world and why I still want Emily Haines to have my babies.

your daily robyn

Here's a remix of Hang With Me, (thanks to DJ Wess for sending it my way), that is sure to go public soon as a release. It's quite good.

3 tracks: uber-pop remix edition

Just to prove I don't completely hate status quo pop music, here are three remixes that I dig of songs that are huge right now.

We have Usher's OMG, a track (remixed by The Almighty) that is very infectious despite using the word 'boobies' in it. Asinine. Lady Gaga's latest release (and possibly worst song) Alejandro has a decent remix by gay-pop-lovin' Bimbo Jones, which I find surprisingly of high quality. Lastly, MSTRKRFT applied their trademark distortion and sass to the innately retarded California Gurls, by the auto-tuned empress, Katy Perry. May she cease to be. Enjoy!

EDC lineup schedule

I hate everyone going. Xoxo.

fresh: felguk ft. sporty-o

I heard this track, 2nite, by Felguk (ft. Sporty-O) on the trailer for the Electric Daisy Carnival [EDC] (I hate all of you going), which is going to be the best group of DJs playing together in recent memory. They chose this song for the trailer, and it really does provoke a party atmosphere. Or, maybe it just makes me want to do a lot of drugs. I don't care - I like it, in all its super-intensity. Sometimes you just gotta put on a heavy track and jump around like an idiot. Rule of life.

essentials: el paso hot button

Something magical happens when Trash Yourself remixes El Paso Hot Button. Really. Listen for yourself:

remix: scanners + designer drugs

DD are at it again, taking good songs and making them dark and danceable. Definitely check this one out if you love the ravetastic side of dark-dance. (I effin' love it, but I know it's an acquired taste.)

new kelis video: 4th of July

The album is superb. Get it when it drops July 6.

new scissor sisters: sex and violence

With Night Work about to come out, I have a little tidbit to get you ready for the glorious Scissor Sisters' new full-length. This track, Sex and Violence is easily my favorite off the album (yes I have it already, mwuhahaha). This is seriously the best track I've heard from them since their debut album and all its ridiculous glory. I love it. Enjoy!

3 tracks: random as hell

Here are three songs to which I've been listening this morning. You don't like it? I don't care. I'm weird. Xoxo.

I hate Kings of Leon. I think they're excrement 99% of the time. The 1% comes in this downtempo remix of Use Somebody (Andrew Anjos remix). Woot. Secondly, we have one of my favorite Kylie Minogue remixes, Sebastien Leger's vocal remix of In My Arms. This song is so gay it makes me want to hide back in the closet just to jump out again with this song playing. Love. It.

Lastly, we have a brand new track from Uffie, the title track from her new album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans. Uffie is such a faux-skank sometimes. She plays the tough, mouthy ho and she's actually talented and more ballsy/experimental than most in her genre. This song is making me pretty happy right now (thanks to Shea Van Horn). Dig it.

fresh : new stars + kele

Two new tracks to keep you going. One from the upcoming new Stars album, The Five Ghosts & The Seance, called Wasted Daylight. I really like it, but I am a sucker for Amy Millan's voice. Also, Bloc Party's front man Kele has gone solo (at least for now)... check out his latest track Tenderoni (which is a poor choice considering Chromeo's fantastic track of the same title). I tacked on the video as well.

Anyway, here ya go! Maybe you'll like them, maybe you'll hate them... I don't care too much (but feel free to comment). They're just okay in my book. A step above tolerable and one below great stuff.

essentials - goldfrapp

With Goldfrapp only a week away (at 9:30 club), I am going to stay on this kick...
Here are my three favorite tracks by Goldfrapp. The first song that I ever heard by Goldfrapp was Train (off the Queer as Folk Season 4 soundtrack... which is quite good, by the way), many years ago. I was immediately taken with the song's innate sexuality without any lyrical crudeness. It was a unique style that is now a staple in the electropop music community, and was quite refreshing for 21-year-old me to hear. That exposure led me to acquiring the Black Cherry album, which also had the fantastic Twist (probably still my favorite track of Goldfrapp, overall). Finally, the most underrated track of Goldfrapp has to be Beautiful (off the fantastic Supernature album). I love the swagger of this song. It screams 'stare at me, I'm gorgeous' and 'suck it everyone' all at the same time. Hooray!

remix monday (except on tuesday) - goldfrapp

OK, so Pride destroyed me and I needed Monday to recover from the parody of a tragedy that my weekend was. Wow. Soon I'll post photos of SIREN on Friday (easily the highlight of my weekend), thanks to Gordon the magnificent.
So, here's a remix that doesn't blow by Dave Aude. Usually his remixes are so gay that they shit rainbows, but this one is quite good. I am still looking for the perfect Goldfrapp Alive remix, but this will do for now.

for the girls

Today's random downloadable tracks are all for the vaginas. When dealing with labiatastic tunes, you have to include a new song by none other than eternally terrible Christina Aguilera. A tolerable one, nonetheless, she takes a page out of Pink's book and teams with Peaches. Additionally, we have the lovely stylings of White Rose Movement with what is my favorite of these tracks... by far.

Inaugural Siren SamplerMix

The heads of SHIFT (me!) and WTF/HHHH are teaming up to bring you SIREN on Friday. It's the launch party, and we're really excited to do this! Check out the SIREN SAMPLER MIX! It's a mix of what the FIRST party will embody: 2000's era music (Oh Oh's) vs. Bitchpop (electro-femme). The future parties will include an Oh Oh party, a BitchPop party, and a T.B.D. secret party. The first one, though, will be a Party Sampler platter of everything! Woot! ENJOY:

fresh : new nelly furtado

Here are two tracks (they may be new they may not... I don't really give a crap, considering they're new to me and most likely you anyway) from Nelly Furtado, one of which is a decent duet with N.E.R.D. frontman, Pharrell. I dig them, mostly. I think Nelly Furtado is one of the more interesting pop artists. She's very versatile and writes very well, but since her foray into the Timbaland forest, she's opened up many doors. Girlfriend in This City is pretty amazing, I think. It's exactly the direction in which I wanted Nelly to go, and she's taken it by the horns. Check'em out and think for yourself:

new gaga video - sieg heil-andro?

This almost makes up for the giant turd that was the Telephone video.

essentials - dido

Dido is one of my favorite sad-ass bitches. She is smart, well-written, emotionally equipped, and completely what I need sometimes. Here are my favorite two tracks of hers, followed by a new track she recorded for the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack. Get ready for her fourth studio album, due out by year's end. It's supposed to be more electronic and upbeat. I'm looking forward to it more than the new True Blood season.

As always, feel free to DL these with the down arrow to the right of the soundcloud.

DJ MAJR guest DJ @ Peach Pit on Thursday!

DJ Matt Bailer has tapped DJ MAJR (me!) to play at the 90's dance party, Peach Pit, this Thursday! Can you think of a better kickoff to your Pride weekend? No, neither can I!?!? It's a DJ MAJR weekend of Pride Extravaganza... Peach Pit Thursday, SIREN Friday, Homo Erectus Closing Party on Saturday! Woohoo!

remix monday : kylie

So, I got bored a couple weeks ago and played with the new Kylie Minogue track. Now, I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of the track, but I like it enough to try to make it better. First, we have to get rid of the butterflies and unicorn farts sound that it maintains throughout, and speed up the track. So, I took the Treasure Fingers remix rhythm line of Little Boots' Earthquake and laced it behind the intro, outro, and verses of All the Lovers. Then, I played with the choruses to make them *pop* more than the rollerskate princess aura they seem to currently have. Finally, as aforementioned, I sped up the track a bit to make it slightly more danceable. The only time I can dance to the original is when I'm drunk off my ass and the room is spinning faster than the song itself. It's not perfect, but I'm sure I can tweak it enough to make it something fabulous... hooray! New album (Aphrodite) out July 6 in the U.S. (same day as Kelis). Download by clicking the right down arrow. Enjoy!

random: even more robyn...

So, I just found this video. Enjoy... (and apologies for its brevity)

random: robyn/kelis/dan black overdose

I'm so stoked to go to the NYC Robyn/Kelis/Dan Black show! To celebrate, here are some tracks with which I'm majorly obsessed:

3 tracks: songs that i needed this week

So, I have had a crappy week in a few ways. Have you ever had the ball rolling in the right direction professionally but personally everything is imploding? It's a feeling that makes all the success in the world feel worthless, even if it's just a small amount of such. Well, welcome to my therapy.

In these tracks you'll find Marina & the Diamonds' Are You Satisfied, easily my favorite track by these budding superstars. I also threw down a slightly angry track by Duffy, Rain on Your Parade, which is the ferocity equivalent of press-on painted talons.. but the angry little girl in me totally digs it. Lastly, Freak Out, by Stellastarr* is a track that still calms me down in the middle of my biggest of messes, and then it lets me, indeed, freak out in my own way. It's a song that helps me get over all of the disappointment of life by dancing around it, instead of running from it.
