NEW SHIFTeaserMix! / MELTDOWN

I'm proud to present to you the latest in my monthly TeaserMixes. It's an extremely high energy mix that ranges from the aggression of electro-dance to the slightly softer side of french disco pop, to the unmistakeable production styles by (and influenced by) my idol, Benny Benassi. If you remember, I started a previous teaser with Animale, but it never quite settled with me. This time it is done properly with my own edit of the track, and the momentum is fantastic. When that first electro bassline kicks in, I die. This also may be the most electro-rave mix I've ever made, but I never really plan these mixes with any kind of musical/genre-based motive. The music I collect and dance to for the month prior basically takes me to where it wishes to go, and I optimize each track within itself and the mix, as a whole. Pop is heavy on this one, as evidenced by two artists of whom I'm not the biggest fan (Britney & Katy), but the individual tracks earned themselves onto the mix, and I think you'll dig them, and the entire mix, as much as I do.

essentials: Eskimo Disco - "Japanese Girl"

This song is a-fucking-mazing. My favorite Japan-themed song ever, and a perfect fit for Saturday's SHIFT Presents: MELTDOWN. Delicious. I heart Eskimo Disco.

remix monday: favorite YELLE remixes

Yelle returns to DC this Wednesday, and what better way to celebrate than to dedicate Remix Monday to her?! These are my two favorite remixes of the french electro fairy who rocks so many of us. The remixers, The Twelves and Madeon, are two of my favorites at what they do: quality disco/electro. GREAT stuff. I cannot wait to see her in two days! Dancing imminent.

Don't Call Me Baby... unless it's this one

Get yo' glowsticks, gurl!

fresh: Till The World Ends (DJ Kue vs. DJ MAJR edit)

Fresh and finished. This remix really had to be touched up, I must say. DJ Kue, once again, has delivered a hard electro slam of a remix. It's the second time he's made a song better than its original, when the song was innately sort of terrible. Hate me for saying that now, but I know I'll get your thank-yous in a few months. Oh, and I know this has been up on the DJ MAJR fan page for a while... I'm just now getting around to not being busy out of my mind! Enjoy your lovely Britney Spears, nonetheless:

RW Day 3: FAV 5 ROBYN VIDEOS

Excited yet for FRIDAY's ROBYN RIOT (CHECK OUT THE INVITE HERE). Here are my five favorite videos by the queen of Electro-Pop. The songs may not be my favorites of hers, but I love the videos more than my luggage. They are fantastic representations of her tracks and make me smile every time I view such. In ascending order:

5.) With Every Heartbeat
4.) Cobrastyle
3.) Hang With Me
2.) Dancing On My Own
1.) Dream On

if you want any of these tracks, email me @ SHIFTdc@gmail.com

do that booby dance

RW Day 2: Forgotten Robyns

Here are three songs by (or featuring) Robyn that I love, you should love, and that the record industry didn't really love... because they were never made singles and aren't lauded much when it comes to mentioning her best works. Bum Like You is a track off her Self-Titled LP (from 2006), Include Me Out is one of the two fantastic tracks not to make the final version of Body Talk (along with Cry When You Get Older), and Hey U is a track by Basement Jaxx (off Crazy Itch Radio) using Robyn's vocals that sounds like a disco circus. Hooray!

ROBYN WEEK Day 1: Call Your Girlfriend rmxs

ROBYN

So, they were finally released! All the Robyn freaks out there have been waiting for the release of her next single (and probably the most radio worthy of any track she's had since Show Me Love). Everyone should love this song, even if the remixes don't quite do it justice.

fresh: new song from The Kills

So, I got the new album from The Kills, and it's not too shabby. It is a huge departure from their dance-rock friendly last album, Midnight Boom, but it does have a couple sparkling gems that redeem it. Here is my favorite track from the album, thus far. The album is called Blood Pressures and it is now available at all major merchants (I recommend the $7.99 on Amazon, where I got it). The track I really like, Baby Says, is pretty gorgeous and worth every bit of a listen.

fresh: new Death Cab video

I have to admit, I sort of love this.
I think Death Cab For Cutie may be back in a big way.

It. Is. Done.

Robyn is my favorite pop artist, and this was such an undertaking.
I still don't think it's perfect, but I am content with it.

It's all there.

Animale (DJ MAJR club edit) - Don Diablo/Dragonette

Today I get a little indulgent for Remix Monday. I spent about a day and a half editing Animale, by Don Diablo (featuring Dragonette), and finally (after much manipulating) surfaced with a tolerable product. This is a highly edited and cut-and-pasted molding/folding/manhandling of the original leaked version of the track and its club mix, all the handiwork of the incredible electro-loving Don Diablo. ::kneels in homage::
I hope you dig this as much as I do. It was hard work and my ears are still ringing. I can't remember a bass line more emphatic than this one. It makes my heart smile and my ears squeal. Oh, and don't we love how popular Dragonette is without anyone really (STILL) knowing who they are?! God bless pop culture and its asinine trends. Soon, though, soon! They are too talented to not potentialize it.

Go on and show'em your fangs!

robyn records on vinyl, takes on prince

Oh, lord. I just died. A-fucking-mazing.
Just wow. Can't wait for The ROBYN Riot.
