Headliner/Resident: DJ Mikey Adolphson (aka The Majr) will be spinning.  He brings you the best mix of electro, pop that doesn't blow, indie dance, and non-cliché new wave.  The Majr has headlined the 2009 Hirshhorn Museum's Pride After Dark, HHHH, Anti-Gaga Week DC, The Official METRIC "Fantasies" CD Release Party, and the upcoming WTF? @ Town.  He is pro-choice and anti-undanceable DJs.

According to the paper this morning, syphilis is BACK! And so are WE! Like the aforementioned, we will rock your life before, during, and after you shake that ass... BUT YOU WON'T CATCH US AT THE BEACH! So, be here on Saturday @ Cobalt!

ALL LA RIOTS all the time (tonight @ ultrabar in DC)

Bounce your head or move your feet, you can expect everything from electro, indie, hiphop, punk & lo-fi to disco, new-wave, and international rainbow pop...there is a tendency towards guilty pleasures, and we tend to turn it up. Dancing is encouraged, while chilling is understood. Say hello/stay out late.

SHIFT GIVING AWAY TWO TICKETS TO DEPECHE MODE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SHIFT GIVING AWAY TWO TICKETS TO DEPECHE MODE

July 20, 2009

Washington, DC.

“SHIFT,” the flagship party of SHIFT DC, is preparing for its sixth edition this Saturday July 25, 2009.

In celebration of its exceptional success in molding quality dance music and an all-inclusive atmosphere into a product that has already made its mark on the DC scene, SHIFT DC is giving away two (seated) tickets to the upcoming Depeche Mode concert at Nissan Pavilion, in Bristow, VA.

Depeche Mode, a band the epitomizes the genre bending and gender blurring dance atmosphere that “SHIFT” strives to always create, is making its rare visit to the area Tuesday July 28, 2009.

Tickets will be given away at the dance party by a door sign-up and subsequent "surprise" contest at 12:30 a.m.   July’s guest hour (11:30-12:30) DJ is Matt Bailer of “Mixtape.”

WTF?
TOWN (8th & Florida, NW, DC)
THURSDAY AUGUST 6
9:30 P.M.-2:00 A.M.
$5, 18+

I have been asked to be the guest DJ the upcoming WTF? at Town on August 6, 2009. This is a new monthly party of anything-goes music and crazy mid-set live shows.

Now, Town gets some crap for being the home of lowest common denominator thump-thump diva dancing and gay nightlife.  True, some of the happenings there are not my favorite, but this place cannot be denied for its ability to reach out to the community, and having perhaps the best dance-club amenities in the District.

For those that know what a great dance space this is, it is the best chance to dance to quality music (if I don't say so myself).  For those of you who dislike the club, this is your chance to take advantage of the awesome sound system and great dancefloor, while not passing out in a pool of your own distaste.

Get Excited.  A promo video is coming soon!  I'll put it up when it gets here!

THR. JULY 23 10:00 doors

So, as hinted in the previous entry, LA Riots are coming to spin at ULTRABAR here in the glorious District of Chodea.  It is very exciting.  They were the best act that I have ever seen, as far as DJ's go, and I encourage everyone to see them when they're here.  Go, goddamnit!

from ears to each others' mouths

Music seems to be slowing down in the creative department in 2009.  Last year, 2008, was fantastic for new bands and sounds, but this year I find myself growing increasingly bored.   As a DJ, and as basically “me,” I am constantly looking for new sounds and sound-based stimuli.  I am worried that this year will not produce anything that will excite me.  If nothing else, we have spin-master outfits thriving this year, such as The Twelves, Designer Drugs, Filthy Dukes, and LA Riots

Especially the latter.  They are fantastic.  They are playing at ULTRABAR on July 23.   Be there for a fantastic dancing experience.  When will the producers and record executives pull their dicks out of each others' mouths and start to realize that they can make as much (and possibly more) money by investing unto innovation... not repetition.  Lame bastards.  Mainstreaming is a bitch.

Never accept crap in your ears.  Just as a safe rule.

Album of the Week: Beck's Midnite Vultures -a classic still.

independence mixtape tomorrow

SATURDAY JULY 4
ROCK & ROLL HOTEL
1353 H ST. NE
9:30 p.m. -2:30 a.m.
$5, 21+

What holiday is complete without decent dancing?

Well, I have no idea, but I can say that MIXTAPE returns this Saturday for a special Independence version at the Rock & Roll Hotel in NE.  It's a really fun venue, despite the slightly inconvenient location (for most).  I strongly insist to attend, even if you have to cab it, as I doubt anything this fun will be going on that evening.

DJ's Shea Van Horn and Matt Bailer will be dishing up their mix of pop, electro, itali-disco, house, 80's pop, and anything else they deem danceable on the main (bottom) floor.  Dig it.

Drink Specials: $5 Redbull/Vodkas  & $3 Rail Vodka from 9:30-11:00 p.m.

WTF?
THURSDAY 7/2
TOWN DANCEBOUTIQUE
2009 8th St NW
9:00-Close
$5 , 18+

A year ago, dancing in the District blew.  Now, after nights such as Mixtape and our own SHIFT off the ground and well established, dancing has become quite a lovely common occurrence.  Now, a new monthly night is here!

TOWN, the largest dance space in NW DC is debuting its "1st Thursday of Every Month" dance party called "WTF?"  This "anything goes" dance party will feature Mixtape's Shea Van Horn (as Summer Camp) and TOWN's Ed Bailey in the DJ booth.  It is also organized by the brilliant Aaron Riggins, the master of HHHH, as well as a key link to the super hit Pride After Dark at the Hirshhorn Musuem (yep, the one at which I was spinning).

If you are looking for a nice pre-game, HHHH is taking place again tomorrow at the lovely DuPont Hotel from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., and offers fantastic drink prices.   Also, the lovely DJ sounds of DJ TMY (Tommy Cornelis) will keep your toe tapping.
