So, this is me going on...

Today's REMIX MONDAY is a track that I have had for way too long and not passed along. Shea played it Saturday and I realized that I already had it, I just hadn't messed with it! Hooray for rediscovery! Enjoy this fantastic remix of Lykke Li's new track, I Follow Rivers.

fresh: NEW ADELE ALBUM!

So, I have had a chance to listen to the new Adele album a few times through... it's pretty great. I CANNOT get Rumor Has It out of my head! Here you go, for a limited time only:

in case you ever wanted to know..

..this is my favorite Robyn song.

can I get a f**k yeah!?!

3 tracks - 3 GREAT Robyn remixes

THREE TRACK THURSDAY! Hooray! Here are three remixes that I don't play very often, but I plan on changing that soon! Robyn, the pop darling of my life, is the focus today. She is pretty astounding as an artist, but I have driven that point into the proverbial ground before. The NEWS is that she's coming to Baltimore NEXT TUESDAY and I AM GOING! This is cause for celebration!

There are two more exciting aspects of Robyn's return to the Mid-Atlantic: 1.) My good friends The PocketGays are chartering 2 booze-buses full of Robyn fans to go from Dupont (DC) to Baltimore, and back. 2.) I am going to celebrate on Saturday at SHIFT Presents: The Winter Blue Ball with a Robyn-heavy set.

In any case, here are three remixes I barely play, but are worthy of your time and iPod. The RAC remix of Cobrastyle is a-mazing. They are great at everything they do, it seems.
The Be Mine remix is interesting because it's the same version of the song that she sings live. Quite good; darker and more reflective of the song's actual tone.
Lastly, a mashmix of Hang With Me (one of her most lyrically solid tracks) I made months ago that uses the Avicii remix as a base, cuts it up, and infuses a rhythm line from a Scanners/LA Riots remix. This one I haven't played in a few months, but goes over very well with crowds. It's lovely.

fresh: NEW CUT COPY ALBUM!

Get it. Before the man takes it away!

essentials: cut copy remixes

Tonight I am having a Zonoscope (new album) pre-release listening party at a local fantastic dive called Rendezvous, and I am excited to debut the new sonically serious sounds of Cut Copy. For your Essential Tuesday, today, I wanted to make sure those of you that are fans of the Command-X'ers have some of their worthwhile remixes. Of these, I am not overly in love with any, but the Hercules And The Love Affair remix probably takes the proverbial cake:

SHIFT Preview Video - 5 days!

By the AMAZING Gordon Wells!

remix monday: Rihanna goes all sex club on us

I'm not a gigantic Rihanna fan, but I will say that S&M is one of the best songs she's released in years. I don't think I have liked a song by her this much since Breakin' Dishes. I few club remixes were released this weekend, and the pick of the ho-hum litter was this one by Joe Bermudez. It's nice, but I definitely prefer the original to it, any day. The rise and fall momentum of the album track is a lot more tangible than any of the remixes, but this remix is the best across which I have come.

Enjoy, all you big fanatics! At least it's not the giant fecal mess that Britney put out the other day.

Hooray!

3 tracks: MAJR edits

Here are a few edits of mine that I have made over the last year. Usually I make an edit because I like the song a lot, but it has too many glitches, is too boring, or is simply unlovable in its current state.

Like an snake. Or Jesus. Or a baby.

So, I tear it apart and make a beautiful Baby Jesus-skinned purse out of it, and can now carry the song around everywhere that I spin. Hooray!

new RAC: soothing psychic powers

I think, perhaps, after weeks of blaring the loud electro of the SHIFTeaserMix in my headphones, I needed something downtempo and beautiful to soothe me. That's where this track magically and oh so serendipitously manifested itself into my iTunes. I hope you enjoy this piece of eden as much as I do. RAC has once again worked some witchery here. Great job.

fresh: NEW SHIFTEASERMIX! - Get.Blue

I hope everyone loves this as much as I do. It was a lot of fun to make, is a blast to hear, and is full of more songs than anything I've ever produced. It spans 46 years of artists, as well as 6 different dance genres, while shocking you in all the right ways. It is my favorite work so far, after nearly 2 years of making these, and really revived my love for creating. Now, get ready for what SHIFT Presents: The WINTER BLUE BALL has in store. Get.Blue.

remix monday: Metric gets Deathly

By now, many of you know that I am a big Metric fan. They are simply fantastic. I just came across this great remix of Twilight Galaxy from their last album, 2009's Fantasies, by the ever-creative Death To The Throne. This is quite good for lovers of disco-gressive remixes. I'm an instant fan. It's downtempo without being boring and simple without being dull. This is the 5th great remix from Death To The Throne that I've heard. Previous to this, DTTT has released great remixes of The XX, Lykke Li, and Santigold. Keep it up!

random: a little kylie for your sunday

It was about 9 months ago that I got the first leak of new Kylie Minogue, and made this track. I hope you like it! Granted, I do dig the WAWA remix more, but this was a lot of fun to make. And, I still dig it for lounges over the aforementioned club-friendly hit. Also, it's just appropriate, now that she's FINALLY coming to DC! SHIFT will be sure to celebrate this on April 30th! Indulge:

And there's also this, which I JUST edited for fun:

3 tracks: best Ting Tings remixes

Like last week, I decided that this week's THREE TRACK THURSDAY will emphasize my favorite remixes of a certain artist. Last week's post on Madonna was quite the stir. I'm sure this one will be less exciting for everyone BUT me. I often love The Ting Tings. Ever since I heard a demo of Great DJ years ago, I have been excited for the simple indie pop rock that embodies their sound. To remix a band like that is not easy, and I think these three remixes are fantastic finds. The Retro/Grade remix had to be edited by yours truly, but the end product is stupendous. The Retro/Grade remix is the only one that really emphasizes the best part of the song: its Bronski Beat sampling (produced SO WELL by the glorious Calvin Harris). Enjoy!

fresh: remixes of SaintSaviour & Don Diablo

It's FRESH WEDNESDAY, y'all! OK, for today's new stuff, I'm including two recently acquired remixes. They're both decent, though I do like the SaintSaviour track a bit more. It's soulful, bitter, and has a bit of an electro-trance vibe that does me in quite well. The Animale remix sort of takes the bite out of Don Diablo's aggressive style, but it's a nice office listen.

essentials: new lykke li + favorite remixes

Are you as excited as I am for the new Lykke Li? Here are the three leaks so far. I love them all. I also threw in my 2 favorite remixes of her, my favorite mash-up, and the FANTASTIC new video for Get Some. If you don't own this Swedish sweetheart's debut album, Youth Novels, get. it. The new album drops in the U.S. in March. Also, check out her collaborations with Kleerup and Royksopp. Such great stuff (couldn't upload them because of the multiply aforementioned douchebaggery of SoundCloud... just click on them).

NEW STUFF

TREATMENTeaser

So, I've started a chill night at Rendezvous in Adams Morgan. Every TUESDAY. 10p-close. Come chill, listen to good music, bring your awkward internet date after dinner, and say hi!

Check out the preview mix, below. A downtempo (but not slow), electronic, fun, ambiently loungetastic, nearly dance-club worthy non-stop mix of Royksopp, Dragonette, Lykke Li, Cut Copy, Temper Trap, Van She, and Sneaky Sound System.

yelle stays weird

... and that's why we love her. Here's the new single from Yelle... the only thing making up for how terrible the other leak of the day was. I'm not saying this is the best single ever from Yelle, but it definitely does blow that everyone creamed their jeans over Britney's leak and barely batted a lash about one of Pop's lustrous little starlets in the francophonic Yelle. For shame.

Here's Yelle's newest single, Safari Disco Club, from her new album due out March 29th in the U.S. and March 14th internationally.

I really like it, if nothing else, because it's really well produced and superbly weird. It's good enough to almost make me forget that GrandMarnier, Yelle, and Tepr are taking their show on the road and opening up for the giant turd that is Katy Perry on her UK Tour.

Enjoy!

britney lets one out

OK, initial reaction = excrement. It's not as bad as Christina Aguilera's fecal return last year, but it is definitely horribly written, obviously produced w/ a casio recorder and a stick of gum, and includes a failed attempt at a tired dub-step breakdown. B-side material. Until her writers learn the magical ways of the (over 8th grade level) metaphor, and Britney learns how to actually spell simile, all of her work will forever be in the shadow of the pop masterpiece, In The Zone. I'm sure this will circulate in the gay clubs quicker than meth in the 90's, and may even be a tolerable drunken dance track... but it's nothing short of terrible for now.

RAW Live Setlist & Recording
