"Buy My Love (MAJR club edit)" - Wynter Gordon

Goddamn you, Wynter Gordon. You are making me less and less want to take a poop on your head. This track was a lot of fun to edit into a club track, and I really am addicted to it. Give it a few listens, and if you aren't secretly humming "You can be my sugar daddy...", then you have no soul and deserve water-boarding. Have a wonderful day!

Yes. Ma'am.

weekenditty: Love U More (Buzz Junkies vs. MAJR edit) - Sunday Girl

Sunday Girl is slowly growing into my good graces, I must say. And, Buzz Junkies, who haven't been on my radar since their (fucking amazing) remix of Robyn's Dancing On My Own (Listen/DL HERE), 18+ months ago, are back in my happy place.
I downloaded this remix recently, and though I love listening to the entire 7:00+ track while walking, I wanted to make it club-ready. It's quite beautiful, yet danceable, and that's something I like about Buzz Junkies. They have a fantastic grasp of trance-influenced house, with a modern electro edge- and that makes me smile. So, here you go! Enjoy your weekenditty. A track that will make you wish it was Summer again. Now, throw this on your Bose dock, slip into something a little more comfortable, and do ecstasy in a hottub. Don't forget your Fuji water bottle.

PS: if you like the track, check out RAC's fantastic remix as well, HERE.
PSS: below is the original track's VIDEO!

fresh: "Goodbye Horses" - Kele

Kele, lead singer of Bloc Party, has released a new EP (back in November) called The Hunter. It's pretty fucking great, considering this is his first EP after his first LP (last year's The Boxer). After his phenomenal vocals on Martin Solveig's Ready 2 Go, and Tiƫsto's It's Not the Things You Say, it's easy to say that my favorite black homosexual singer is battin' a thousand right now.

Here's my first love on this EP. This song is just glorious. It gives electronica lovers an eargasm and makes indie lovers adore all that is their amour for Bloc Party's heart and soul.

essential: I'm talkin' every drop-drop, don'tcha waste it!

Umm... how could you forget this sparkling gem?

Ahhh, ::sigh::, so many memories...

Shake (MAJR club edit) - Little Boots

I have a serious Little Boots fever right now. I have missed her so much! Anyway, here's a taste of what I'll be dropping at clubs. Get on it!

"Electric Chapel (Two Door Cinema Club remix)" - Lady Gaga

Of all the remixes on Lady Gaga's somewhat terrible remix album, this one takes the cake. Perhaps it's because I love Two Door Cinema Club - or I just love anything that sounds a little more indie-electro - but this remix is truly an interesting, if not awesome, take on one of the somewhat forgettable tracks from Born This Way.

Since I can't currently upload to mediafire (I'm posting remotely), if you want the track, just shoot me an email at MAJRmusic@gmail.com

I hope everyone is as excited as I am for Friday! It's going to be the cat's pajamas. I may even play this. WOOHOO!

remix monday: "Seven Nation Army (Digitalism remix)" - White Stripes

So, I am super jealous of my home city, Washington, DC, tonight. Digitalism will be there at U Street Music Hall, and I won't be back in DC until Thursday! Life is a soulless slutwhore sometimes... but the silver lining is that I will get to throw a massive bash when I arrive... and I am basically vibrating with excitement about that. Woohoo. Anyway, back to this fantastic remix of the White Stripes...

"I Wanna Dance With Somebody (OCD Automatic vs. MAJR edit)" - Whitney Houston

There are so many things to love about this Whitney Houston remix (by OCD Automatic), that I had to make it club-ready for tonight. So, here's my club edit of perhaps the gayest remix of the gayest of the gay anthems. A track so homocentric, it refills your lube dispenser.
Don'tcha wanna dance!
Say ya wanna dance!
Don'tcha wanna dance!

I'm not only going to rock this tune tonight at Zen Rock and Pete King's Red Ribbon Ball (a benefit for World AIDS Day), but I am especially going to beat DC over the head with it next week at SIREN: The Holiday Hooker Ball.

FRESH: "Starring Role" - Marina & the Diamonds

So Marina Diamondis is at it again... "leaking" an unreleased track that may or may not be on the new Marina & the Diaomonds record. Either way, this is an interesting turn for this unique pop starlet. I'm not sure what to think of it, but I can say that it is NO Scab & Plaster (which I adore). I am pretty excited for the new record, but I know, off the top, that it probably won't be on par with the stellar The Family Jewels. In the meantime, enjoy this fresh tune, and try not to think of Justin Timberlake.

"Illusion (Matias Segnini extended remix)" - Kylie Minogue

I recently stumbled across this extended mix of the version of Illusion that Kylie Minogue did during the Aphrodite tour, last year. This is definitely essential, especially if you love Kylie. Illusion is perhaps the best song (along with Too Much) not to be released off Aphrodite. God knows what her management was thinking... but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate it here. So, enjoy:

"Marry the Night (David Jost Twin remix)" - Lady Gaga

So, here's a fresh little ditty of a remix. Since Lady Gaga is finally releasing a song that doesn't blow balls off Born This Way, I am excited to post remixes of it! Hooray! Way to not fuck up anymore, woman. There are 5 songs on the album that should have been released already: Americano, Heavy Metal Lover, ScheiƟe, Government Hooker, and Marry the Night. Now, I have to admit I didn't hate Judas nearly as much as I wanted to- it had a wonderful electro edge- but it can't hold a candle to the previously mentioned quintet.

Alas, here we have the first remix of Marry the Night that I haven't immediately trashed. Done by relatively unknown David Jost Twin, this is a really interesting take on the recording. So, enjoy another lovely polished turd... just kidding. This is pretty good, though I do enjoy the original a little more.

essential: electro Michael Jackson!

Two words: Fuck. Yes.

I love these remixes of Michael Jackson. So much so, that I edited them down to play in my live sets! There's something about the explosion of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" that makes every single person on the planet dance... and that's the magic that is/was/always will be MJ. So, soak up these bitches...

remix monday: "Alien Summer (Buffetlibre remix)" - Toxic Avenger ft. Annie

This song marks the return of Annie to my ears, and that's all I need to smile and post. Add to that the electro-quality of the initial track's producers, Toxic Avenger, and the flawless remixing by Buffetlibre, and BAM! - It smacks you in the ear like an angry nun.
Seriously... this song is ruling my life right now. Oh, how I missed her sweet, soft Scandinavian voice...

NEW VIDEO: "No Light, No Light" - Florence + the Machine

Dear Lady Gaga,

TAKE NOTES.

Oh, and here she is killin' it on SNL:

summer '11 revisited - "Bounce" & "What a Feeling" club edits

As we go along in this series of club edits I like to make, some are passƩ to the point where they only work (see also: enjoyable) in the context of a night out dancing or in combination with other songs. In other words, these songs are played-the-fuck-out and aren't worth a post by themselves. So, here are two of the biggest songs of this past summer, together, and me not wasting your time! Hooray! Enjoy...

"Bittersweet (DJ MAJR club edit)" - Sophie Ellis-Bextor

As I lead up to SIREN on December 9th, I am going to start on a series of edits and remix tracks that everyone should have... and that I'm really excited to play for them. Here is a club edit I made of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Bittersweet, which makes me queen out like you wouldn't believe. The Freemasons did a hell of a job on this, it just needed the MAJR touch (basically I want it more danceable and dancefloor-friendly). Remember, filler only makes you a fat bitch. So, get yer dancin' shoes on!

rƩpondez s'il vous plaƮt?

weekenditty: The SIREN SamplerMix!

The Holiday Hooker Ball (SIREN SamplerMix) - DJ MAJR by MAJRmusic

ARTISTS IN MIX
get. excited.

"I Need You So (DJ MAJR club edit)" - Sneaky Sound System

As far as the new Sneaky Sound System album, my favorite dance track (my favorite track of all is downtempo) is EASILY I Need You So. This track is big as hell, and the bass rocks the hell out of my car speakers... try for yourself...

As far as this club edit, I wanted to shorten the song, up it to a house beat (128bpm) and drop the parts that would possibly kill a dance floor. The song itself is an aphrodisiac to the ears, but to a dance crowd it needs editing. Check it:

Sidenote: doesn't Miss Connie look delightfully eurosexytrash with that do?

fresh: "One That Got Away (Sick Puppy vs. DJ MAJR edit)" - Katy Perry

POLL: SHOULD I PLAY THIS LIVE @ SIREN?
Apparently Sick Puppy made this Katy Perry mix a year ago, when the album first dropped. I really like when a remixer hears what's good before everyone else, and now they look like a genius. It also helps that this remix blows the ass off every other one I've heard (even Mixin Marc's, whose stuff is usually solid but who dropped the ball on this one). Anywho, I did my thing on this club mix and made it playable for me... I'm ready to rock this one out, even if it is boobmeister mcgee singing.

On a side note, does she not look like Demi Moore in that photo? Crazy. Makes me want to kill her husband so she can make me a new pot for my plant. Additionally, this may be my favorite song ever (see also: polished turd) by Katy Perry.

essential: Calvin Harris - extended mixes

The man who made us Bounce with Kelis and has set the pop world afire with Rihanna, does not often get his due. He's young, innovative, and creative enough to have his own staple of a sound. Perhaps the greatest testament to how much I love his sound is that he has made me dance to (his remixes of) Shakira, Primal Scream, and Mika... not easy to do. So, if you aren't already, GET INTO IT!

Here are 3 awesome 1-click-downloads:

I just saw this video (how did I not see it before?!) and it made me so happy. Very well done, Mr. Harris (::channels Lost In Translation::). So, for your visual enjoyment:
Also, check out these awesome remixes of Feel So Close that I posted a while back.

"Give Me All Your Love (Alessio Silvestro vs. DJ MAJR edit)" - Madonna

NOTE:
The link below will still download, despite Madonna's management being big annoying bitches and disallowing the playing of the track.

I had a lot of fun editing this remix (all goddamned morning). Alessio Silvestro, for the 2nd track in a row (the first was Rihanna's We Found Love) has done a pretty awesome job at remixing a brand new song. I thought it needed some help in the momentum department, for my tastes, so I did my best to make it into something I would love to play live. So, I edited it down, sped it up, and deleted the fluff in order to create more of a pop, if you will. So, here ya go! Your weekenditty! Madonna is soooo back.

Gaga... finally a song I liked released off the album...

Here's the glorious Lady Gaga performing on X-Factor. I wasn't floored by this, but I was impressed that she stayed mostly in-key. The song really is a showcase of her vocal talent, and I'm glad she pulled it off. The performance was quite good, and I'm glad she took a dramatic angle with its delivery.

remix monday: my fav U2 remix

I recently rediscovered this old remix by Crookers of U2 that is fantastic. I used to play this track back in 2009, and I still enjoy it. It is so good (if you don't hate U2) and worth having if you enjoy throwing in an unexpected track in your sets -- which is what I did in my Capital Pride set (at the Hirshhorn in '09). So, enjoy this electro-goodness:

NEW - "Where Have You Been?" - Rihanna

I'm definitely a fan. I really hope Rihanna keeps making dance music like this and that the new 14-track album, Talk That Talk, isn't full of questionable fluff like her others. There's a void in dance-pop music that Rihanna has a chance to fill before Madonna comes out and slams the hell out of everyone.

Get. It. Gurl.

(NEW) Madonna + Martin Solveig = INFECTIOUS (like happiness - not herpes)

Thanks to my very good friend Wesley at KickKickSnare, I have the a Martin Solveig-produced demo by this little artist - you may have heard of her - MADONNA!

I have had a few run-throughs of this track, and I have to say it gets better and better each time. I love Madonna, yes, but she is no poet- that's for sure (at least not since Ray of Light). Where this track completely kicks some pop-ass is its signature Martin Solveig quirks that make me really want to dance around like an idiot.

NEW Keljet remix! (of Wynter Gordon)...

Remember that time I said I wanted to poop on Wynter Gordon's face? Well, I stand by that... BUUUUT, I do enjoy this remix by the flawless Keljet. Every single damned remix has been awesome. God bless fucking Scandinavia!

at 1:50 and 2:30 = goosebumps

remix monday: "Mr. Know It All (DJ Kue rmx)" - Adele Lite

"BACK OFF, I'M STAAAARVING!"... r.i.p. Chris Farley
As much as I hate to admit it, I often enjoy me some Adele Lite, AKA Kelly Clarkson. Half the talent for half the filler (or filling...). She's pretty talented, obviously, as we all know from the soothsaying American Idol. Ha. But, yes, I do enjoy her, and I still find joy every time I play Gone- my favorite of hers.

So, she has a new album and the market is finally ripe for her slightly rotund self. She's totally likable, which definitely helps, and has a real edge to her, or curve rather, to which a lot of heifers out there (myself included) can relate. So, as we all delve into the holiday calories, let's enjoy our favorite semi-fatty, Kelly Clarkson, and her new remixed track (by the oft-impressive DJ Kue) Mr. Know It All. Download link above.

I also used this in the awesome new mix, which is available HERE.

#131dayssober - New Amy Winehouse record in '12

According to Spin Magazine, Amy Winehouse has a posthumous record coming out in 2012. Though I'm happy to hear any songs on which she was working previous to her demise, I am curious to know who is getting the funds this record will make. I'm especially excited to hear her Shirelles cover.

In any case, let's hear it for Amy. 131 DAYS SOBER! She's gonna make it this time...

"The unreleased tracks include "Halftime" and a cover of bossa nova standard "The Girl From Ipanema," both of which date back to the 2002 sessions for Winehouse's debut album, Frank. "Like Smoke" is a duet with Nas that came about following Winehouse's mention of the rapper on "Me & Mr. Jones," from 2006 sophomore album Back to Black. "Between the Cheats" is a new song recorded in May 2008 as a potential selection for her third album.

Lioness will also feature covers of the Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," Donny Hathaway's "A Song for You" (originally written and recorded by Leon Russell), and a reggae take on Ruby & the Romantics' '60s doo-wop song "Our Day Will Come." Alternate versions of previously released tracks include a demo of Back to Black's "Wake Up Alone" and slower-paced renditions of "The Tears Dry on Their Own" (also originally from Back to Black) and the single "Valerie" (initially available only on Ronson'sVersions album). "Body and Soul," the singer's previously released collaboration with Tony Bennett, will appear, as well." - SPIN

"Stay Awake (Moam remix)" - Example (plus vidja)

Moam has surprised me here for a second time (previously it was another Example track Watch The Sun Come Up a couple years ago) with a solid remix.

Check out the original song within its own video:

weekenditty: Moves Like Jagger (Cosmic Dawn remix)

Ok, so both of these acts kind of blow. Let's be real, folks. Christina Aguilera should have gone the way of Celine Dion a long time ago (just do ballads, heifer... keep your loose-skinned genie in its bottle). As for Maroon 5.... just. stop. (but keep doing that above!)

Then came this catchy little collaboration between these two turds, or a shit sandwich, rather. And, once again, Cosmic Dawn has produced a pop remix of said track that towers above all others. *Click on the tag above to see some of the fantastic remixes he's done that I've posted (most notably Beyonce and Robyn).

So, enjoy this shiny little turd for your weekend. I secretly love it and am using it in my live sets.
Bon Earpetit.

"We Found Love" - Rihanna/Calvin Harris vidja

I AM SO IMPRESSED.

This is the best pop (or any other genre) video to come out in a very long time. I have not been this moved in over 6 months when the Call Your Girlfriend video leaked. Fucking wow, Rihanna. Now, I'm really excited for the new album. Hopefully this aesthetic is just a hint of what's to come. Please, Jesus, keep working with artists like Calvin Harris.

"Natural Disaster" - Laidback Luke/Example (video & Benassi rmx)

This song is so wonderfully electro. Take Laidback Luke and Example and throw in the stylings of Benny Benassi, and BLAM! A nice find today, for sure.

Apparently this was leaked back in September, but is now officially released as of the 16th of this month. I think, as far as danceability goes, this is a fantastic song, but it still has a few more listens to decide if it's to stay on the playlist very long. Benny Benassi, though, bless his heart... he delivers oh-so-well.

fresh: oh, Britney ('Criminal' vidja)

I totally don't hate this song. It's very ho-hum to me. Emphasis on the ho. But, this is pretty much hilarious in its clichƩ delivery. Speaking of the c-word, I snagged this from Perez Hilton's page.

So, enjoy it.
Britney, you are our muse. We know you don't take yourself as seriously as Gaga, because God knows you don't have the ego or intelligence that too-self-righteous-to-be-genuinely-persuasive-if-you-have-a-mind-of-your-own windbag does, and we thank you for that. So, get your kiss on, you little house bunny with a muffin-top, you.

essential: "So Alive" - Ryan Adams

"So Alive" is one of those songs that hit me at the right time when I was in my early 20's. God, I loved this song. I still get very reminiscent when I hear it. It dropped when I was probably at my lowest point personally (hard to believe, huh) in late 2003, and it was a time, musically, when I was very into melodic indie rock. This phase would slowly fade into the neo-new wave era of the mid-2000's and slide right into a healthy electro obsession from 2006-to-present.

Ryan Adams is a great writer and this is from his most underrated record, Rock N Roll. If you don't have the album and love melodic, poetic indie rock, dive in... other highlights are the title track, This Is It, Wish You Were Here, and Anybody Wanna Take Me Home. If you love intoxicating guitar rifts and haunting vocals, you will love this song for years...
