NO SCRUBS is a 90’s Dance Party began in 2004 as a one-off concept party by friends and DJ partners Will Eastman and Brian Billion. The idea was simple: play both guilty pleasures and underground classics you listened to in the 90’s. Salt N Pepa and Nirvana. Ace of Base and Happy Mondays. The Prodigy and Biggie. By its third edition, the party quickly began to sell out the Black Cat back stage and, later, fill the Cat’s mainstage. Rather than host No Scrubs weekly or monthly, Eastman and Billion insist on keeping the party quarterly and as guilty a pleasure as they want it to be.

After another 4-month hiatus, NO SCRUBS is back August 28. Rather than risk people waiting on the sidewalk, this time they are exercising their pleasure groove to Bell Biv Devoe, TLC, C&C Music Factory, Oasis and 2Pac by taking over the spacious 9:30 Club, whose sound and light systems are world-class—for just $10!

After a super fun party last month, Aural Pleasure returns for its second installment this Friday, August 21st at Dahlak (1771 U Street NW).  Aural Pleasure is a monthly dance party for queer guys/gals and their fans.  The music is where hip hop meets electronica, rap meets indie, r&b meets house, pop meets go-go, and everything in between.  

This month, DJ TMY will be joined by Lil' El (Spingsters and Kids) and Crash Landon.

So, TNG has a new party coming out.  It's very exciting, as they have already done a great job putting Homo/Sonic together.  So, while you wait for another Homo/Sonic dance party, the Black Cat  is having TNG's "Transformer" on Friday, July 31st, for an all ages dance party that will feature the best vintage music (i.e. classic rock, disco, pop, glam, etc) from the 60's, 70's and 80's.  

This New Gay party is all-ages, co-ed, trans-inclusive and straight-friendly.

“SHIFT,” the flagship party of SHIFT DC, is preparing for its sixth edition this Saturday July 25, 2009. 

In celebration of its exceptional success in molding quality dance music and an all-inclusive atmosphere into a product that has already made its mark on the DC scene, SHIFT DC is giving away two (seated) tickets to the upcoming Depeche Mode concert at Nissan Pavilion, in Bristow, VA.

Depeche Mode, a band the epitomizes the genre bending and gender blurring dance atmosphere that “SHIFT” strives to always create, is making its rare visit to the area Tuesday July 28, 2009.

Tickets will be given away at the dance party by a door sign-up and subsequent "surprise" contest at 12:30 a.m.   July’s guest hour (11:30-12:30) DJ is Matt Bailer of “Mixtape.”

We've got a great DJ lined up for the guest hour: ReddAJ, one half of Razzmatazz (which is next Saturday, May 30th @ Black Cat - don't miss it!), and the reigning Brit-pop queen of DC! Also, a great big THANK YOU to the folks over at Brightest Young Things, who've been so kind as to feature us on their site and let the Majr and I take over their BYT Favorite Song of the Day feature.  Check it out!

the majr - guest dj @ 4H [DuPont Hotel]

Yours truly, The Majr, will be DJing the uber-popular HHHH tomorrow at the Dupont Hotel from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. I hope everyone can make it. It is going to be a lot of fun, and the set I have been preparing is looking pretty fabulous. Everything from to new Indie Dance/Rock to Pop (that does not blow). It is going to be a fantastic time of welcoming summer and lushing yourself silly with cheap drinks.

It will also be a fantastic dress rehearsal for next weekend's SHIFT MEMORIAL SATURDAY BASH, on May 23.

the Majr - dj gig tonight @ dupont hotel

Tonight I (the Majr) will be playing at Homo Hotel Happy Hour (4H), a GLBT-based non-profit fund-raising organization that shifts venues every month. This month's edition is at the newly renovated Dupont Hotel (formerly Jury's). My set will run from 7:15-9:00 p.m., with an opener from DJ Tommy Cornelis. It should be a hoot.

SHIFT identifies itself with all orientations, genders, blah blah etc., so it is a blast to help out a community organization of any kind. Even if the sound is not quite loud enough to rock out to your optimum, we hope you come out and enjoy hearing some great tunes and helping out a great cause.

This month's "4H" event supports Whitman-Walker Clinic’s Gay Men's Peer Counseling program. As Whitman-Walker is the leading clinic in the metropolitan area for AIDS research and treatment, and D.C. having the highest percentage of HIV-infected residents... this is a big deal. So, if nothing else, come support something real... ok, that's enough of that. I swear I won't start yapping about feline AIDS being the leading killer of domestic tabbies or my fertility issues next.

SHIFT is proud to announce that this month's dance party will be the official launch party for GAGA WEEK DC, a week of parties and promotions leading up to Lady Gaga's Thursday (4/2) concert(s) at 9:30 club. Organized by District social emperor, Aaron Riggins, GAGA WEEK DC is a great chance for fans to celebrate an artist who succeeds at bridging the gap between pop and electro quite well.

Within the popular spectrum, Lady Gaga leans more toward our musical taste (played "Boys Boys Boys" at the last SHIFT), and I look forward to kicking off the week-long celebration at SHIFT with a few songs of hers. Reliably, we will also be throwing down my sidereal set of indie rock, electro-dance, and quality pop tracks.

Also, we will have the pleasure of welcoming one of the best Disc Jockeys on the east coast, DJ Shea Van Horn (of Mixtape) as this month's guest DJ. Last month, Zack+Michael of Homo/Sonic did a fantastic job, and we hope to some day have them back. Shea has impeccable music taste, dynamite DJ diction, is a talented technician, and is the only DJ who dances as much as I do in the booth. With our powers combined, we will keep you dancing to songs you will want to hear again and again.
