Well... this isn't horrible - it's no award winner, but it's not deplorable dance like so many out there. It sounds just like his last single Under Control, but oh well. It's Calvin, and if we must embrace a mass-produced sound on the decks, he's at his core the best. So, Mr. Harris, feel free to phone it in - we'll wait for the good stuff later. In the mean time - get it.

weekenditty: "I Need Your Love (MAJR club edit)" - Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding
Calvin Harris has done it again. He isn't going to blow you away, as far as production, but his ability to create danceable electro-house is second-to-none in the current musical environment. He's just the best, right now. So, when Ellie Goulding's new album Halcyon dropped on Tuesday, I swooped in and grabbed what is sure to be the next track to storm the club Bastille: a collaboration titled I Need Your Love with Mr. Harris (LIP MY STOCKING!).
I desperately wanted to play it live, so I put it in MAJR studio magic box of eargasmic tinkerings, and manipulated it. I took out some filler, sped it up to a proper house bpm, added an intro and outro loop, and borrowed a dub from another extended Harris mix. This will do until the actual extended is released... and it might not even have to be replaced. Woot.
Here's to a LOVEly weekend.

rise & moonshine: Kelis goes country (disco)

I am both highly amused and mortified by this remix. Keljet, one of the most talented remixers in the world, takes a song that has been remixed into club nauseam, and makes a cowboy disco rework of Calvin Harris's Bounce. Because, you know, Kelis is such a cracker.
I cannot help but put it on loop and laugh my ass into a frenzy. Well, I personally would not prefer a frenzy around my ass, but I definitely want this song to keep playing... so I may have to choose between the two. But, for now, FRENZY IT IS! Enjoy!

essential: Calvin in a Pit of Passion

As much as I love playing pop clubs, I am superbly excited to play a bar this Thursday that is heavy on the indie/electro vibe, Club Congress. I cannot wait - you have no idea! Indie and Electro Dance were where I started and where I am most passionate.
To get you ready, here's a fantastic oldie but goodie from the indie dance file. Get on it!

SIREN songs

As we go along in this series of club edits I like to make, some are passé to the point where they only work (see also: enjoyable) in the context of a night out dancing or in combination with other songs. In other words, these songs are played-the-fuck-out and aren't worth a post by themselves. So, here are two of the biggest songs of this past summer, together, and me not wasting your time! Hooray! Enjoy...

essential: Calvin Harris - extended mixes

The man who made us Bounce with Kelis and has set the pop world afire with Rihanna, does not often get his due. He's young, innovative, and creative enough to have his own staple of a sound. Perhaps the greatest testament to how much I love his sound is that he has made me dance to (his remixes of) Shakira, Primal Scream, and Mika... not easy to do. So, if you aren't already, GET INTO IT!
Here are 3 awesome 1-click-downloads:
I just saw this video (how did I not see it before?!) and it made me so happy. Very well done, Mr. Harris (::channels Lost In Translation::). So, for your visual enjoyment:
Also, check out these awesome remixes of Feel So Close that I posted a while back.

"We Found Love" - Rihanna/Calvin Harris vidja

I AM SO IMPRESSED.
This is the best pop (or any other genre) video to come out in a very long time. I have not been this moved in over 6 months when the Call Your Girlfriend video leaked. Fucking wow, Rihanna. Now, I'm really excited for the new album. Hopefully this aesthetic is just a hint of what's to come. Please, Jesus, keep working with artists like Calvin Harris.

fresh: "We Found Love (Alessio Silvestro remix)" - Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris
Oh, you know these bitches are gonna start pouring out, now. The remix flood cometh. Here's the first one I like. Much like a Greek lover, it needs some trimming, but it is hot nonetheless. Get it, Silvestroface whatever your name is. Also, the downloadable file is much better quality than the youtube. Get on it, cowgirl!

new Rihanna (prod. by Calvin Harris)

Gotta be honest... I LOVE IT.
This song has the interwebs' collective vagina all in a joyful twist. So, get this song before I get killed for posting it. (Remember that time I posted Only Girl [In The World] before everyone else...)... Anyway, I like this (because I love Calvin Harris), and I really dig that Rihanna is throwing her hat into the GaGa/Britney ring saying "MOVE OVER WHITE BITCHES!"

remix monday: Benassi & TABS do Calvin Harris

REMIX MONDAY IS BACK!
And, we're recommencing with a WHOPPER! No, not the sandwich, you fat bitch.
You probably know by now that Benny Benassi is my favorite DJ. You also know that in my top five is also Calvin Harris. What happens when one remixes the other? Well, other than involuntary ejaculation, some heavy electro awesomeness. For good measure, I'm throwing in the (pretty great in its own right) TABS remix of Calvin's latest single. All signs point to another stellar album from Mr. Harris.
