So, Britney returns with a song that isn't absolutely horrible, but it felt disjointed and I was bored and wanted a project... so ta dah!

This song sounds extremely similar to SEAL IT WITH A KISS, to me at least.  What do you think?

Cosmic Dawn is quickly becoming my favorite source of phenomenal pop remixes. This Norweigan master is getting bigger and bigger, and I couldn't be happier about that. He incorporates parts of nü disco and electro, as well as maintaing a great deal of respect for the pop electronica that should never be lost from the original tracks when he remixes. In any case, here is a mix I recently edited down into a club track.

Criminal (Cosmic Dawn v. MAJR edit) - Britney Spears

On my side of things, I messed with the tempo, as well as the momentum of the track. I wanted a good, mixable track with proper intro and outro placement, as well as the kind of house energy needed for my sets. The drop in this song is a little unbecoming, but that's Britney Spears' fault - let's be real. The original track isn't too powerful, but this remix overcomes that to an extent. And, I look forward to playing it.

fresh: oh, Britney ('Criminal' vidja)

I totally don't hate this song. It's very ho-hum to me. Emphasis on the ho. But, this is pretty much hilarious in its cliché delivery. Speaking of the c-word, I snagged this from Perez Hilton's page.

We know you don't take yourself as seriously as Gaga, because God knows you don't have the ego or intelligence that too-self-righteous-to-be-genuinely-persuasive-if-you-have-a-mind-of-your-own windbag does, and we thank you for that. remix monday: "Inside Out (Shark Blood vs. DJ MAJR edit)" - Britney Spears

I did this a few days ago, and I'm quite happy with the response. This is seriously probably the worst song Britney Spears has ever "made." But, this remix is absolutely stellar. Shark Blood has some serious talent. I shaved it down, displaced some bass lines, played with the momentum/tempo, and voila! I'll let you listen for yourself, but I will say this: I hate dubstep more than any other genre of music. I'd rather listen to karaoke covers of death metal with accenting slide guitar and piccolo. It's a terrible genre for drunk white bitches to grind up on their girlfriends in some false sense of nauseating bro-dom. This remix gives the How's Your Father to the dreadful dance genre with some danceable electro and a club-ready house bpm.

I Wanna Go: Best Britney single in years (video/download)

A ways back in my review of the new Britney Spears album, Femme Fatale, I rated I Wanna Go the 2nd best track on the album (behind Trip To Your Heart), and said it would be her biggest hit as a single. Now... here we go! It's out. The video's out... and the rest shall soon be history.

If you've heard any of my sets over the last few months, this song has been in heavy rotation. I think I mostly like it because it's so similar in structure to Robyn's Time Machine. It's no surprise that they share the same producer. In any case, enjoy! And if you download nothing else from this album, enjoy this track. It'll come off as fluffy but in the end you'll be dancing with your hands in the air.

Fresh and finished. This remix really had to be touched up, I must say. DJ Kue, once again, has delivered a hard electro slam of a remix. It's the second time he's made a song better than its original, when the song was innately sort of terrible. Hate me for saying that now, but I know I'll get your thank-yous in a few months. Trouble For Me

I can't help but love every part of this song. Maybe it is because it sounds nothing like Britney has ever done. Actually, it sounds nothing like Britney. I love the electro-deadmau5-esque repeating breakdown. Lyrically this song is no prize winner, but I really like it anyway. Its chord progression is pretty gorgeous and it is perhaps the most experimental of all of her songs, on all levels: lyrically, vocally, production-wise and, not to mention, the constant break in the beat. I love it and I'm not afraid to admit that. Haha. Get on it. 8.0/10

Trip To Your Heart

Paging Little Boots... we have an impostor. I adore Little Boots, and I love this track because it vocally sounds like her, while the background production is VERY Kaskade-like. This is the most gorgeous track on the album, hands-down, and probably should have closed the album. It's pretty amazing, actually. I don't remember anything this beautiful by Britney since Everytime, and this trumps that. I can't say enough about this song. It's like crack. I can't stop playing it. On its own merits, on all levels, this is the best song on the album. The highest she's scored for me since Toxic and Breathe On Me. 9.o/10

Gasoline

This song is pretty great, not gonna lie. I will not be surprised if it's a single. It has a distinct Kylie Minogue X feel to it, and that's probably why I am so into it. It almost has an indie-electro feel, where she drops into minor chords, and God knows that's an immediate aphrodisiac for yours truly. The breakdown on here isn't nearly as corny as most of hers, and it actually helps the song build, unlike so many other songs she has produced. The only knock is the STUPID lyric "my heart only runs on supreme." But, all in all, at this point you're thinking where the fuck has this side of Britney been over the last 12 years? Kudos, girl. Light it up. 8.0/10

Criminal

You really immediately want to hate this song. You do. It's a blatant sampling of Supertramp, but the more you listen to the song, the more you appreciate that sampling as part of the entire presentation of the song. I dig it, but am not falling all over this one. It's a perfect closing track, and it makes you want to restart the album to get your dance back rolling. Well done. 6.5/10

How I Roll

This is where you start to notice that Britney is finally starting to get experimental with her music. She remains playful in this track, but in a way that I really enjoy. The song builds like, and reminds me of, Okay Delores by Dragonette. I love when she says "You can be my fuck tonight." I simply die. Haha. I also love the chord progression in this track and experimental electronic sounds her producers use. This song is simply good, on all levels. It is the epitome of quality bubblegum pop. It even sounds like it. 8.0/10

(Drop Dead) Beautiful

This song is just okay. It is built like a radio track. The only reason I don't really like it is because there is simply nothing novel about it. It can be sung by anyone and really has no Britney staple. Filler that's danceable, but still filler. 4.0/10

Seal It With A Kiss

This is another song that isn't really of any true quality, but it isn't as bad as the previous track. The chorus is pretty catchy, but it lacks a real punch. This is a quintessential bridge/filler song. I just wish it wasn't back-to-back with (Drop Dead) Beautiful. It creates a mundane mid-album patch that is pretty unneeded. Still, I don't hate the song, I just don't really love it. It's very ho-hum. 4.5/10

Big Fat Bass

I personally hate Will.I.Am more than lima beans, but this song is shockingly good. It builds like a euro-pop/Paul Van Dyk track. I love almost every part of this song, even her shrill the bass is gettin' bigger line. It has a slow crescendo to it (which you know I love), and is quality electro-orchestral in every sense. This song basically gives the proverbial fuck you to everyone who gives Britney flack for being hyper-synthetic. This song is not merely synthetic, it's a fucking prize-winning plastic sculpture. Nothing about it is real, per se, and it uses its holistic synthetics to its advantage. I don't love when Will.I.Am comes in at 3:17, but I can deal with it in this track. I like it more and more every day. 8.0/10

remix monday: britney wants more!

Gimme More is a terrible pop song by Britney Spears, though I have been guilty of dancing to it on multiple occasions. SHUT UP! We don't speak of such times.

In any case, LAZRtag is an amazing dj outfit that puts out some seriously awesome remixes (check out their work with Scanners, M.I.A., and The Faint, to name a few). I edited down this track to make it more danceable, and it turned out really, really well. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it. Remember, the point of editing it down is to cut the fluff and make it into an amazing dance track. I also played a bit of patchwork on moments that needed a little more "umph!," per se.

I love to dance- so I hate those lulls of cacophony that happen way too often in clubs. It is my goal to stop that shit before it starts, and hence my edits. This remix and edit combination makes the song perfect for the dancefloor, while also giving the original track some teeth. Love it. Get on this!

SIREN: The BRITNEY Bash is Friday. Oh, you don't have the new album? I will be reviewing and giving away four tracks per day this week (Mon-Wed), as well as dedicating the entire week to Pop's most intriguing starlet.

The first four are below:

Till The World Ends

The album opener, and current (new/2nd) single, this is probably the best song with which to open an album. The song is a good balance of reserved energy (that slowly crescendos) in her verses, while also having an anthemic, albeit nonsensical, chorus. The bridge-like climax at the 2:36 is the best part of the track (repeated again at 3:38). A good entrance to an album does exactly what this song does... it just happens to be good enough to become a single. This isn't nearly the best track on the record, but it's quite good for the Princess of Pop. I'll even forgive the fact that "Till" is a verb, and it technically should be 'Til. 7.0/10

Hold It Against Me

This song was a terrible choice for a first single. Really? Once you listen to this album, you realize how many other tracks she could have used, but weren't. Still, I think she has very little to say about such. I can go on rants about how the song is basically a marketing tool by her management to keep the lowest-aptitude rung of her fans engaged, and how stupid the lyrics and music are... but it's a pop song. Nothing Ke$ha or Katy Perry has released was any better, except for the formers unreleased tracks Animal and Boots & Boys. If nothing else, there is one remix by Schim (I will post my edit of that soon on the DJ MAJR page) that does this song justice and reminds you that if you have one or the other (quality lyrics or good production), it will be a tolerable track, if not good. 3.5/10

Inside Out

This song has an age-old premise of break-up sex set to a slow BPM and a unneeded belt-out (that she sure cannot reproduce live... but that's a foregone conclusion). This song is meant for drunk white bitches at house parties to grind into the corner of their fridge, thinking it's an unsuspecting gentleman. Not even the decent production on this track can save this from being the worst song on the album. Hands down horrible. But, don't get discouraged... one of the best songs is coming up next! 1.5/10

I Wanna Go

For me, this was the song where my ears raised up like Scooby-Do and I took notice. "What is this Time Machine-esque (Robyn) track," I asked myself. This song was quality pop, completely catchy, and I will not surprise me if it's her biggest hit off the record. It is as if her producers took notice that they can never make her into the aggressive electro siren that is Lady Gaga, but instead should focus on borrowing the styles of the rest of the synth-pop world, namely Kylie Minogue and Robyn. These artists have some edge, but it's their carefree (without being asinine) lyrics on top of immaculate production that make them infectious. This song is Max Martin producing at his best. It's no surprise that he also produced Time Machine. Consider this track the beginning of what is her best album since, if not better than, the pop diamond In The Zone. 8.5/10

britney lets one out

OK, initial reaction = excrement. It's not as bad as Christina Aguilera's fecal return last year, but it is definitely horribly written, obviously produced w/ a casio recorder and a stick of gum, and includes a failed attempt at a tired dub-step breakdown. B-side material. Until her writers learn the magical ways of the (over 8th grade level) metaphor, and Britney learns how to actually spell simile, all of her work will forever be in the shadow of the pop masterpiece, In The Zone. I'm sure this will circulate in the gay clubs quicker than meth in the 90's, and may even be a tolerable drunken dance track... but it's nothing short of terrible for now.
