weekenditty(s): NEW Van She & Dragonette

Dear radio pop heifers,

Add some quality indie pop to your weekend:

BRAND NEW VAN SHE

BRAND NEW DRAGONETTE*

Not only has Van She produced perhaps the best remix of Dragonette ever, but they are now dropping a song in the same week as them that is equally as awesome. There's no real relation there, but I thought it was interesting... shut up!

*Thanks to my joyous Jeffrey for getting this one for me... you filthy little fairy pirate. :)

"We Are Young (Alvin Risk v. MAJR edit)" - Fun.

This song is so popular, I won't even explain it. When I dropped my dance edit of this remix last Saturday for the first time, I got one of the most explosive responses I've ever experienced as a club DJ. It was glorious, even if I'm not a massive fan of the track and I hate the name "Fun." for a band. Alvin Risk gets an amazing amount of credit here. Well done, sir.

Here's the best remix of the motherfucker (and my dance edit available for download):

weekenditty: "End of Time (Statue of David v. MAJR edit)" - Beyoncé

This is the best remix (by Statue of David) of my favorite track off Beyoncé's last album. I have edited out the shitty filler, increased the tempo to make it seamlessly mixable, and now it is ready to get launched this weekend. So, throw it on your iPod and join me in a dance-walk.

Here's the unedited version:

Here's my dance edit:

fresh: "Primadonna (Benny Benassi remix)" - Marina & the Diamonds

So, it's no surprise that Marina & the Diamonds is ruling my world right now. Considering I'm having one of the worst weeks of the last couple years, I need as much of her cerebral pop as possible. This girl is just fantastic. Then, we have Benny Benassi, whose sound is borderline redundant, but we still don't hate it. This remix needs serious reworking, but here's the raw version. Enjoy (or not, and tell me why you hate it)... as the jury is still really out for me.

The one thing this proves, though, is that she's being taken seriously, and is probably on the cusp of getting serious pushes from various media outlets (unlike her debut album). Also, enjoy the acoustic version, below. Woohoo!

essential: "Hong Kong Garden" - Siouxsie & the Banshees

This is simply an essential for any collection. It is a song that immediately makes me happy, and then it puts me in a female-led indie rock mood... and then I wind up listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for days.

Siouxsie and the Banshees contributed so much to music, and women in rock, that they definitely deserve a lot more credit than given. Also, for those of you who love Sofia Coppola films, this was used in her highly underrated John Hughes-esque take on the story of Marie Antoinette. So, without further excremental explanation, here's your essential tuesday:

remix monday: ruff draft: "Primadonna (MAJR club edit)" - Marina & the Diamonds

If my instincts are correct, Marina Diamondis is about to kick the 'sophomore slump' right in the brown eye. After multiple quality leaks of new tracks, Marina & the Diamonds is about to drop what could be one of the best follow-up pop albums in years. Due out APRIL 30th, Electra Heart could be special. Here is the track listing:

1. Bubblegum Bitch
2. Primadonna
3. Lies
4. Homewrecker
5. Starring Role
6. The State of Dreaming
7. Power & Control
8. Living Dead
9. Teen Idle
10. Valley of the Dolls
11. Hypocrates
12. Fear & Loathing

The only omissions that worry me are Radioactive and the superbly stellar Scab & Plaster. But, if her direction in those tracks is any indication, this record is going to be dance-pop meets indie meets jizz your cerebral dance-pants.

Here's the first single, Primadonna:

And here's my FIRST remix of it (I may work on this more). I debuted this on Friday at Cobalt in DC, and it went over well. It went over even better in Tucson on Saturday at IBT's:

"Heavy Metal Lover (toMOOSE remix)" - Lady Gaga

Since I first heard Lady Gaga's most recent LP, Born This Way, I have always claimed Heavy Metal Lover to be my favorite track off the record. It is the direction I thought she'd go with the whole album, but instead I got three tracks that went that direction, and this was the best of the three. The other two are Government Hooker and Scheiße. I've always been critical of this self-entitled wench, but you must always give credit where it's due, and this track is so damned solid, I cannot deny it. I'm honestly more pumped about playing this tomorrow @ SIREN than anything else.
The only reason I have barely played the track as a DJ is because it wasn't quite danceable enough (on the high end) to throw it into house sets, but THAT IS NO MORE, thanks to toMOOSE! I finally found a decent remix of the track, and I shall take advantage of this opportunity like the awkward drunk frat boy at the sorority mixer. So, hold onto your asses, girls, this one is going to take you down (to the dance floor):

fresh: NEW Dragonette / NEW Madonna remix

I'm sure you will hear these at least once on Friday. You've no idea how much I love Dragonette, and this remix edit of Madonna makes my entire body smile.

So much love.

That is all.

Thank you.

essential: 5 BEST/WORST Guetta tracks

Kelis is perhaps the perfect compliment to Guetta's style. She has a soft tone that is never meek, and an attitude that is always apparent. This might be the most definitive Guetta sound (and perhaps best production).

4. Love Don't Let Me Go ft. The Egg
Classic earlier Guetta that previewed his new style which would follow with the subsequent three albums. People know this track, but often don't know that it's mid-2000's Guetta. But, boy do those queens belt it out.

3. Titanium ft. Sia
Sia is wonderful. She is the reason, the soul, of this track. And, she makes him look much better than he deserves in this, as the production is merely ordinary.

2. Night of Your Life ft. Jennifer Hudson
Oh, J-Heifer, you can still sing, despite your newly found bobble-head of a physique. The drums in the lead-up bridge on this make my eardrums cum harder than Meg Ryan.

1. Scream ft. Kelis
No Guetta track makes me dance more than this one. It is simply awesome in every way. And, this is my list, so deal.

WORST
5. Gettin' Over You
4. Little Bad Girl
3. Where Them Girls At
2. Memories
1. Without You

I won't even explain these. They're just fucking terrible and pander to the douchebag fist-pumping crowd minion crowd who must be destroyed.

essential: "The Spell (Buzz Junkies v. MAJR edit)" - Alphabeat

...we bring you an oldie but a goodie! I was not a huge fan of Alphabeat when they first hit the scene, but they slowly grew on me. Thanks to DJ, Heatwave, and this little track below, they definitely have caught my adoration. Thanks to my good friend, Wesley, from KickKickSnare, there's a promo-preview below.
BUT... to celebrate the new track here's a lovely old school remix of The Spell I edited that is sure to make your bubblegum pop: (and, yes, you'll definitely hear this Friday @ SIREN... as if you wouldn't...)

PROMO-PREVIEW:

Ready or Not...

This fantastic vidja was produced by Alex Deatherage in association with DJ MAJR. If you aren't excited yet for SIREN on Friday, you have no fun in your soul. Hooray! If you want the background track, it's I'm a Machine by David Guetta ft. Crystal Nicole. And.... here is the dance mix of it:

And also this:

remix monday: "Party (Megaman & Panic City remix)" - Beyoncé

You know, when I first heard this track, I thought it was bland. Then, little by little, I started to really enjoy how simple it is as a dance track. So, then I started playing it in live sets, and it was an immediate hit. Beyoncé's music has a tendency to do that, and whenever I see Megaman & Panic City attached to any remix, I take notice. You will definitely hear this in my set on Friday at the SIREN: The Say-Something Hat Rave. Enjoy!

enjoy.

weekenditty: "Call Me (Sasha.Ru v. MAJR edit)" - Blondie

There are few bands more influential over the last few decades than Blondie. Take a gander around at your female-led power pop (or rock) acts out there... try to find a few uninfluenced by the Debbie Harry and her crew. Sasha.Ru did a fantastic job with the base track here, and I just gave it my usual edits. Tempo, mixing and matching pieces to manipulate tempo, and making into the perfect 3-4min dance drop. Woot.

If you love Blondie, adore dance-pop, and revel in some quality electro, then dive into this little ditty for your dancing weekend:

rise & moonshine: Kelis goes country (disco)

I am both highly amused and mortified by this remix. Keljet, one of the most talented remixers in the world, takes a song that has been remixed into club nauseam, and makes a cowboy disco rework of Calvin Harris's Bounce. Because, you know, Kelis is such a cracker.

I cannot help but put it on loop and laugh my ass into a frenzy. Well, I personally would not prefer a frenzy around my ass, but I definitely want this song to keep playing... so I may have to choose between the two. But, for now, FRENZY IT IS! Enjoy!
