fresh: "Paddling Out (Wolfgang Gartner remix)" - Miike Snow

As if I'd have to sell this one.

Oh, I eargasm when quality electro hits my drums, and this remix of Miike Snow played my percussion like an aural french tickler a few days ago when I received it. The awesome thing about Wolfgang Gartner is that not only is he a stellar remix orchestrator, but he makes all of his original sounds (redundant, I know). In any case, jump on this and know that I am hard at work on a dance edit. :)

Also, I recently scanned the new Miike Snow album, Happy To You, and I cannot wait for its release on March 29th!!!

Get fucking excited. Once again, Sweden is slapping us where we like it.

essential: "Boombox (LA Riots remix)" - Kylie Minogue

There are a lot of great Kylie Minogue remixes out there. In fact, I have said more than once that I often like remixes of her more than album cuts (of many songs, at least). To slightly hyperbolize, I would say that Kylie may be the most remix-friendly pop artist out there. All my adoration for the queen of dance (sorry Robyn... she got a decade head-start on you) aside, she deserves all credit due.

Perhaps the best (easily in the top 3) remixes ever of a Kylie track is LA Riots' re-working of Boombox. Solid solid solid. This is electro-pop in its finest format, and you should feel free enjoy dancing around your living room in your underwear.

Expect to hear this track make a comeback to my set list at the upcoming SIREN: The Say-Something Hat Rave on March 9th in DC!

remix monday: "Charlie Brown (Dave Aude remix)" - Coldplay

Remix is a strong word here. Yes, it does make Coldplay a little more enjoyable, that's true, and is a reworking of the track by the consistent Dave Aude, but this is not quite... what's the word... something to which I would shake my anus about.

It's great walking music, though. So all you fatties out there, get on it! Grab your ShakeWeight, your wonderfully misnomered New Balances, and press play!

fresh: "Disparate Youth" - Santigold

I did not love "Big Mouth," but I tolerated it lovingly. Santigold is separating herself, once again, from indie/pop cross-over artists, and proving how versatile she is. This is what I wanted: a sound nothing like her first single that proves how awesomely eclectic your sound remains. Her first album ventured so many different directions, and all signs point to her staying the course and upping her game.
Consider "Big Mouth" the "Creator" of her new album, and this track the "Lights Out."

The new album, Master of My Make Believe, is due out May 1st. Hoo-fucking-ray! She's so fucking great. Please, girl, don't let me down...

MAJReview: WinterPop 2012! (listen & download)

45 mins. 30 songs. 3 months in the making!

So, after editing and mixing and editing and bitching and editing and dancing my feelings away...

... it. is. DONE!

Enjoy a voyage to a land where you always dance, you never grow old, beasts try to love you, men with long hair try to kill you, and little latin boys in dresses can't jump.

Let us now mourn the end of winter, as is the tradition of our people... It is time for some hot hot love to turn notorious on your ass.

This mix will make you jump like a bloody domino, shake your shady machine like a wild one, compel you to hallucinate that video game starships have landed in your house and are forcing you to dance in circles like it's midnight in the 212, while unzipping the fuck out of your dreams. Drums and light will make you stronger, show you where you have been, where you want to go, and why you want to see it again. So, there's no need to go anywhere else to buy you some 100% luvin' because who could love u more than I?

How will you know? Gurl, you'll be fucking radioactive.

essential: v-day radio del rey

Valentine's Day is evil and must be destroyed. Alas, if there is one song that is perhaps my favorite (new) love song... it is this one. Direct from pop sensation-turned-pariah, Lizzy Grant, here's a solid solid solid song about how I would view a new love, or other such unicorns. Relatedly, I also would view a chocolate eclair in the same way. Work that shit out, Lana Del Rey, you delicious little tart.

You should own this. So... fix that.

POST #700!!!... "Wish It Away" - Pepper

Introducing: Pepper

This track makes me so goddamned happy - you've no idea. For fans of Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and even Adele, Pepper is a young, gloriously likable Brit with a lot of cheeky attitude. She has teamed up with Dizzee Rascal for this track (and shouts him out during it), and the result is an adorable number that makes me dance around the shower on the regular. I have repeatedly forgotten to post this, so if it's not so 'fresh' to you, you can hush your noise. She's worth a second enjoyment. Get on it!

essential: "Breakneck Speed" - Tokyo Police Club

Now, here's a tune that instantaneously brings a smile to my face. The first chord of this song is recognizable for any fan, and the song itself is nothing but solid. For unfamiliar (with TPC) fans of melodic rock with an indie edge, this is right up your alley.

Tokyo Police Club is a band with quite the cult following. Made up of Canadian gentlemen between the ages of 25-27, they put on a decent show, as well (even if Two Door Cinema Club blew them off the stage when I saw them.. but that's TDCC...). They've made their name by playing basically every major festival in the world, as well as getting a big break opening for Weezer in 2008.

They are, indeed, a hoot. And, this song is highly essential in my book.

"I Like It (Buffetlibre remix)" - Plushgun

Plushgun is a synth-pop band that is highly underrated. In the long line of Postal Service-influenced acts (isn't it amazing how much a band/duo with only ONE album can influence so many others?), Plushgun produces beautiful little pop tracks that are nothing short of delightful. They really are my kind of easy-listening, if such a thing exists, and I am in love with the original and stellar remix by the reliable Barcelona beasts, Buffetlibre. This is the second time Buffetlibre has worked magic with a track of Plushgun's. The first, Mixtapes, was pretty fantastic, as well. Check'em out:

Oh, and a fantastic line in this track: "They call it lust. We call it trust, yeah, we call it love." Awwww....

"So Sleepy" - Fiona Apple

Though this song isn't necessarily new (it was released on a promo Chickens In Love CD last year.. which I believe was a charity for children), my girl Fiona Apple is using it on her new album. Thanks to my Tucson friend, and artist, Jaime J. Soto for pointing out this song to me, again. I forgot about it and how happy it makes me feel. (Yes, Fiona Apple can make you feel happy.)

Oh,...

IT IS FUCKING PHENOMENAL. That is all, thank you.

Actually, no that is not all. Fiona Apple shares top billing with Robyn as my favorite female artist(s). I cannot wait until the new album drops! She is still the only female artist to whom I've ever listened who has 32 released songs that are all good. ALL - zero filler. She is a genius, and if you disagree, you deserve to have your headphones crushed while they're inside of your ears.
I love her. I want to defy science and have her angry little chagrin-ridden babies. Hooray!

fresh: "Bad Girls" - M.I.A.

In the wake of similar artist Santigold dropping her above-par recent (very M.I.A.-esque) single Big Mouth, fellow urban pop/indie-loved princess Nicki Minaj's new tune Stupid Hoe, and being named on the most anticipated single in over a year (Madonna's Give Me All Your Luvin', which is to be dropped in the next 3 days), it is no surprise that M.I.A. is debuting some new material.

So, here you go! Enjoy this juicy little nugget and let me know what you think:
