FRESH : new R.E.M.

I would love to focus this entry on the new R.E.M. material, but I would rather just give you three NEW SONGS (album was released yesterday) by them that I deem pretty fantastic (in order of my preference):

It Happened Today 1-CLICK-DL
Mine Smell Like Honey 1-CLICK-DL
Uberlin 1-CLICK-DL

Instead, today I would like to focus on the phenomena of the good band that releases the subpar record with one track on it that is one of their best ever. Let's call this the "polar album." R.E.M. did this with a song called Leaving New York on an album that was borderline unbecoming, Around The Sun.

A song that still touches some deep and truthful chords in my emotional orchestra, Leaving New York always reminds me that it's okay to leave all that is you recognize as life, for a better one.

Though the opposite is often true for a chronically resilient type as myself, it is, indeed, sometimes "easier to leave than to be left behind."
