Music I'm listening to Right Now
"The Kids Don't Stand a Chance (Chromeo Remix)" - Vampire Weekend
I think Vampire Weekend is the most overrated band since Oasis, but even I cannot damn all their material. This track is not only decent, but actually very good. Perhaps it is the Chromeo influence, but this track reminds me of something the Police would produce if they were younger, hipper, and not approaching 401k cash-in.
"Tell Me It's Not Over (feat. Brandon Flowers)" - Starsailor
Starsailor is a 'just ok' band who makes tolerable melodies from time to time. Brandon Flowers has done the same on the last two albums his Killers have produced. A match made in purgatory begets a much better tune than expected. High five.
"Stupid Little Girls" - S'Express
This track, which came out last summer, is plain girlietronic electro, and it makes you want to dance with sass.
"Death" - White Lies
Some bands can pull off the retro Joy Division-esque sound, and some can't. This one can. And- it's pretty flipping great.
"Like Knives" - The Fashion
No synths. No funny business. This song is blatant dance-punk, taking pages out of Death from Above 1979 and The Rakes. It has been out for a while, but I still love the way it is stripped down into a driving beat and rioting lyrics. One of those songs that you really need when you're drunk at a club and just want to flail around aggressively.
"If I Ever Feel Better" - Phoenix
I was sent this song by my best friend while going through a rough time of tough decisions. It is one of those tunes that gets more out of being lyrically simple and therapeutic, instead of musically brilliant.
