I Blame Coco - Self Machine

i die.

new song/video: i blame coco likes it golden

There's a new star on the rise, and her name is I Blame Coco. Well, actually Coco is the lead singer's name, and the band's name is I Blame Coco. She's Sting's daughter, shockingly, because I love her and he makes me want to kill kittens. At first I thought this was a boy singing, but it's shockingly a beautiful girl. Hooray sexism. Enjoy this slightly above average song! (I actually am growing quite fond of it).

new Röyksopp!

God, I love Royksopp sometimes. This is no Girl & The Robot, but it's still quite stellar. So interesting, to boot. Granted, it's not exactly club material, but it does make me happy... so get on it!

fire in your new shoes (MAJR mashmix)

So, I'm a poor DJ. I don't have the money for the bigtime equipment or studio time to make the shit I dream about making, but I do what I can. Necessity is, indeed, the mother of invention... yada yada, etc etc.

I was a big club dancer before I was ever a DJ, and often a remix or a single is not danceable enough for my liking in said situations. So, I fix these things sometimes. Whether it's mashing two remixes together and manipulating the tracks, or it's completely replacing the backing of one track and replacing it with another... I basically just want a song to be danceable enough for me to love, as well as make the crowds, for whom I play, dance.

Here's the latest track, one of the biggest dance tracks of the summer (everywhere but DC, it seems) from Kaskade ft. Dragonette on which I've been working. It's a mash of a very trance-centric remix by Sultan & Ned Shepard (a remix that Kaskade, himself, has been using to play it live) and a very electro-dance remix by Ming. These two tracks were so good and had perfect moments in each of them... but I couldn't decide which to play live... so I molded them together to my pleasure, and manipulated all the levels to my liking- Enjoy!

benassi returns!

Thanks to DJ Matt Bailer, I was passed this track. Benny Benassi always produces remixes that make me cream my jeans. I could spit out superlatives galore about why he does so... but really I have no idea. It just is. I love his style and always have. Enjoy this angsty, dirty, aggressively sexy track from Skunk Anansie!

love this video

pop vomit day, hooray!

I don't love these whores, but I do sometimes enjoy them as a guilty pleasure. I don't promote such behavior, as it is already abused... but we all need some level of relating to the general public, and there are many things worse than contrived terrible(-y delicious) pop. Huzzah!

Karen O and Martina Sorbara resurface

Two of the leading ladies of indie pop recently lent their vocals to two decent tracks. Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O and Dragonette's Martina Sorbara have enhanced the following tracks in a fashion I find inviting. Check them out!

La Roux - In For The Kill LIVES AGAIN!

So, La Roux (which is a band, not a girl, btw), has American-ized the video for In For The Kill... a track that is nearly 2 years old and still just as good. The Dr. Rosen Rosen remix I posted earlier this week really breathed new life into my love for the song.

There have been a great deal of covering, remixes, and brand new crap that shouldn't probably exist, but I'm glad for once that America has one extra chromosome when it comes to music. I get to relive the amazing album AGAIN. No, I'm not being sarcastic. Well, mostly. Here is the new video, along with a couple remixes. One (Le Castle Vania) is amazing. The Kanye West one is as terrible as he is, and the other ones are pretty good. Yes Yes, I know there are loads other remixes, but these are the only ones you need. Prove me wrong. Enjoy!
So I just realized that I never posted last month's SHIFT: Eyes Wide Drunk set-list! Haha... well, here ya go! Get ready for this month... on the 30th we destroy all that is good and sacred with our Halloween bash.

NEW Ting Tings - We're Not The Same

I am not sure how I feel about this one. I appreciate The Ting Tings. I really do. I just often feel like they could take more advantage of their talent... but that being said, I think this isn't bad at first listen, and I'll give it some more time. I do like the first single (though I have to admit that it didn't blow me away, by any means), Hands (posted previously). I'll put that down below, as well... just to be nice. See... I'm not a big dickhead, after all.

new Kelis video: Scream + remixes

Scream is my 2nd favorite track (22nd Century is my #1) on Kelis' latest album, Flesh Tone. I will forgive her terrible (well it was just horrible in comparison to Robyn this Summer) live performance because I love love love the styling in this. And you should too. Just in case you don't have the original, it's provided below (just click the down arrows to download), along with two FANTASTIC remixes by MSTRKRFT (well half of them) and LA Riots. Get on it!

NEW Lady Gaga... again.

Lady Gaga has nothing on but the radio. Move aside Mae West, there's a new harlot in town, but with less talent. Part of me just feels bad for her producers on this one. It's not a terrible song... but it had to be before they got a hold of it. They probably spent days polishing the turds that are her lyrics.

NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN NEW ROBYN

You heard it here first! Get it get it get it!
First single off the 3rd and final EP of 2010, Body Talk 3!

fresh: new La Roux remix!

Everyone knows this song... now check out the chill-out specialist, Dr. Rosen Rosen's, take on it:
I definitely dig this. They are apparently re-releasing it as a single in the U.S. (a mere 18+ months after it was released across the pond) because America essentially needs to be spoon-fed quality pop before i ingests it properly. I hate the record industry.

essentials: remixes of marina, lady gaga, rihanna

Fred Falke has waved his wand and done it again! He really knows how to make songs better, as well as leave them with an inescapable Falke-stamp. He's pure talent. Check out his remix of Marina & The Diamonds' Shampain!
A few months ago Lady Gaga released an 'official' remix album. Most of it was full of excrement, except for this track. I love that she had the scrotum to use Manson for this, even if he's culturally insignificant right now. Chew Fu really is a great DJ/Producer, especially for big gay dance, which is what this is.
Mixin Marc, despite his terrible stage moniker, is making quite the name for himself in the remix world. This is the 2nd track that I've loved of his... the first was that god-awful Taio Cruz Dynamite track that sounds like Richard Simmons and Jack MacFarland's lovechild. Well... this one from Rihanna is almost as good.

3 tracks: SIREN songs for tonight!

In a rare moment where SHIFT gets reeeeeeal gay, here are three remixes you'll probably (I mean, most definitely) possibly maybe likely presumably hear tonight at SIREN! A good mix of dark electro (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), the queen of fluff (Kylie Minogue), and the best remix of any BOY BAND song I've ever heard (Backstreet Boys). Enjoy!

fresh: Pink, Wolfgang Gartner, Fox In The Henhouse

Quick Review: Sass and Scream. Sass and Scream. Sass & Scream. I'm Pink, I forewent my exclamation point for cellulite and I still sing with slightly-above-average prowess about the same shit.
Quick Review: Wolfgang Gartner is one of the most danceable DJs out there. I would love to hear some serious vocals on this, but appreciate it in its own right, nonetheless. It has moments that remind me of Daft Punk and others that remind me of LA Riots and... well... Wolfgang Gartner. He's great. Good job.
Quick Review: Refreshing new stuff from a wonderfully-named band. Glad I stumbled across this gem from Fox In The Henhouse.

I love this video. That is all, thank you.

remix monday: fischerspooner remixes

tonight: designer drugs return!

So, Designer Drugs will be gracing the big speakers of U-Hall again tonight! Here's a preview with 4 of my favorite remixes of theirs! These boys are seriously talented. Get ready to be sweaty, messy, and crazy. Enjoy!
