My favorite track, ever, (which is hard to believe, I know) by The Killers has always been (since first hearing them in 2004) Believe Me Natalie.
It is a beautiful orchestral song with big drums, beautiful synths, vocals that range from soft to angsty (which Brandon Flowers does so well), and is highlighted by a fanfare that is nothing short of bittersweet. The song emits what I often love in music: a mixture of almost contradictory emotions that work together seamlessly.
The Killers are at their best here- hands down. They were trying hard and succeeding effortlessly, and that was seen through the entirety of the masterpiece of Hot Fuss. The only sad part about this is that of the three times I have witnessed The Killers (2004, 2007, 2008) play live, they have never played this track. But, hope springs eternal, as the amount of requests for it have started to make them play it live more often (see below).
Essential beyond belief. Enjoy!
