rhythm is a dancer... and it's @ No Scrubs on Friday
NO SCRUBS is a 90’s Dance Party began in 2004 as a one-off concept party by friends and DJ partners Will Eastman and Brian Billion. The idea was simple: play both guilty pleasures and underground classics you listened to in the 90’s. Salt N Pepa and Nirvana. Ace of Base and Happy Mondays. The Prodigy and Biggie. By its third edition, the party quickly began to sell out the Black Cat back stage and, later, fill the Cat’s mainstage. Rather than host No Scrubs weekly or monthly, Eastman and Billion insist on keeping the party quarterly and as guilty a pleasure as they want it to be.
After another 4-month hiatus, NO SCRUBS is back August 28. Rather than risk people waiting on the sidewalk, this time they are exercising their pleasure groove to Bell Biv Devoe, TLC, C&C Music Factory, Oasis and 2Pac by taking over the spacious 9:30 Club, whose sound and light systems are world-class—for just $10!

dj bios for August 09 SHIFT
Gavin Holland is perhaps the hottest DJ in DC. His Nouveau Riche party ha
Mr. Riggins makes his big-speaker debut here at SHIFT! This boy has the best taste in music this side of New York Ave, and he consistently provides us with the best parties to go to: WTF?, HHHH, and many others. He is the go-to gay of DC Nightlife, and now he will not only make you drink- but take advantage of your inebriation and make you shake it like a white girl in Harlem.
Better known to his friends as Mikey, Mr. Adolphson started the SHIFT party as an avenue to spill out the best of dance music to a District that greatly craved it. His vision of mixing indie rock, new wave, electro, 90s dancerock, pop, and indie dance with a crowd of the same diversity has been not only fruitful, but looks to keep progressing. He has headlined WTF?, HHHH, The Hirshhorn's Pride After Dark, and many other big parties with his eclecticism, always-danceable sets, and energetic enthusiasm in the booth. He is the ultimate dance party escapist, who revels in the ambiguous androgyny and all-inclusive atmosphere of a great dance night. He loves the music, adores the crowd, and exalts the experience.

musing mixtapes
Music is picking up a bit, I must say. Two bands that I like a great deal, Arctic Monkeys and Muse, are set to release their new albums very soon. In hearing the first singles from each of their respective LP's, it is safe to say that the rest of their new tracks could go in any direction. I have linked the two new songs below.
In other news, SHIFT is approaching in 2 Saturdays, on August 22nd! It is going to be a great time. This month we are looking forward to saying goodbye and fuck you to the summer lull, and hello to good music and the best months to be in DC: September and October. Mixtape is the Saturday prior, featuring the lovely sounds of my favorite local DJ's Shea Van Horn and Matt Bailer. This month's is a return spot at the Rock N Roll Hotel, which despite its crappy neighborhood, is a fantastic venue for dancing. Bring it all.
